Elopements have a special place in my heart in general but this small family elopement probably holds one of the most special places.
Annette and Kellen downsized their plans from a ‘typical’ sized wedding celebration to an elopement with just their son, son to be and a friend who officiated.
I met up with this little fam at the Boat House in Humboldt Park and we walked around to get some photos of them before their intimate ceremony by the lagoons.
Posed photos with a 7 year old aren’t always the easiest but I try to keep it silly and talk about what they’re interested in as much as I can! Also snapping those moments in between portraits gets you some of the best stuff!
Can you even handle how sweet this family is??
After walking around for portraits we met up with their officiating friend and headed over to grab a ceremony spot at the lagoons. If you’ve never visited the lagoons at Humboldt Park, I can’t recommend them enough. You’ll most likely encounter folks fishing and hanging out but there are enough little pockets for everyone. It’s such a relaxing and beautiful spot in the city.
This sweet ceremony kicked off with 7 year old Denny reading what he had prepared. Kellen and Annette read each other their personal vows and then together they read their vows to Denny. If there had been guests in attendance there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the house.
This small ceremony really encapsulates why I feel so honored to do the job I do. To be able to capture these special moments for families to look back on is such an honor.
After things were official we headed to one last photo location to grab a shot with the skyline before this newlywed family headed off for hamburgers and milkshakes to celebrate on this perfect Chicago summer day!
